Ski Retreat!

Wow I got really bad at this whole blog posting thing. But NO MORE! I am turning that around right now. No more excuses.

Working in Norway sure has its perks! The group I work with in the office in Bergen was going away on their annual team building ski retreat and they were nice enough to invite me along. I tried to tell them that being a Florida boy they probably did not want me tagging along as I would just slow them down. Well Norwegians are extremely nice and hospitable people and they insisted I come along. Lars even lent me some skis and we were all staying in the personal cabin of Roald. We took turns cooking meals, went skiing, drank, hung out, and had some team building exercises. All in all it was an absolute blast. Plus the weather was perfect! I took a ton of pictures and I will comment on a few but mostly I will let the pictures do the talking.

The cabin and ski resort was in the area of Norway called Hallingskarvet about halfway between Bergen and Oslo. It took about 4 hours to drive there.

Heading out:

We carpooled up into several different cars on the way out. From the backseat of the car I was in I was able to take quite a few good photos. As always click on them to enlarge.

Skiing: Round 1... Fight!

This was the view from the cabin. Absolutely stunning. Normally I would prefer to have a vacation home on a beach front but I can see why the Norwegians like this style of living. When its not blizzarding out...

Down the driveway

On the way to the SkiCenter

You can see all the snow on the houses haha. In March!

The bunny slopes I started on.
I have only been skiing once in my life before this trip so I needed to start from the easier stuff again to regain my ski-feet. The ski resort had one easier slope, starting about half way up the above picture. I did this slope for the majority of the first day as I wanted to get to a point where I felt comfortable. After I felt comfortable Kurt took my phone for me and snapped a few photos while following me. Some of them turned out pretty good.

As you can see excellent weather for the day

Kurt being funny on the way up the lift.

Thats me looking like a fool on the way up.

I didn't die!

Our own version of Afterski. Hanging out on the back porch eating snacks and drinking beer.

I was on Pizza duty with Kjartan and Zultan. Kjartan was the head chef we were the sous chefs.

I think we made something like 12 - 15 pizzas for everyone.

Skiing: Round 2..... fight!

On the second day I was brave enough to go to the very top and ski my way down. While I did fall on some of the steeper sections all in all I did pretty well. I got a lot of compliments from the Norwegians who are reportedly born with Ski's on... saying I did well for only my second ski-trip.
P.s. the ski boots that I borrowed were older than me. I am 24.

The Norwegian coozie! This was a brilliant invention as during our afterski for round 2 my hand was getting cold. I commented on how I would kill to have a coozie right now. The Norwegians delievered.

Drive Home:

After an excellent trip we had to drive home. Even that was a gorgeous view and did not disappoint.

Top of a mountain.

Top of a mountain with a hydroelectric reservoir below. And my finger.
